Hi! I have been trying to find an Econenlightened Man in New York for some time, but not successful yet : ( So I decided to post on the Fossil Fuel Man section of this site. This picture is from Central Park in NYC and the poor tree is a victim of the recent hurricane Irene. Although the Fossil Fuel Man is not visible in this picture, it serves as a reminder that global warming will increase the number and intensity of hurricanes and other extreme events. Luckily the damage in New York was not as bad as in some other states, such as Vermont. Again, this is another feature of global warming that extreme events will start occuring more often in areas that were not prone to them before. However, the good news is that we can do something about this. Small actions by individuals and communities can make a big difference. Think about planting a tree for example. Not only it helps in mitigating the effects of climate change but more trees will also help in preventing landslides and floods for example.
