This is one of the inspirations for The Fossil Fuel Man Challenge! Yes...that says Dubai as the United Arab Emirates, as in the desert. YUP down hill snow skiing in the desert. Would you like to calculate the carbon footprint? The slope measures 400 meters and uses 6000 tons of snow. But waite there's more! A second indoors ski slope is due to open in 2009. It will feature a revolving ski slope, an artificial mountain range, an ice bridge, a cable lift, a snow maze, an ice slide, polar bears cold water-aquaria and special sound and light effects. Well at least the polar bears will have someplace to go! This just seemed to be the epitome of evidence that the Fossil Fuel Man is alive and well on earth today. Not only must the energy needed to cool this place be colossal, but this ski area has actually been finance directly or indirectly from the sale of fossil fuel. And lots of that fuel was sold to us right here in the USA.
